PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The Certificate in Child Studies (CCS) based on the Celebrating Children (Viva) curriculum provides effective, biblical based material to equip people working with children and young people. The curriculum favors the participatory approach, in which children and workers grow together to affect change.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS) offers the CCS as foundation level in its Child Studies program. Students can complete the program within a year. Although enrollment is flexible, students are encouraged to join the program in January of the new academic year. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will receive the Certificate in Child Studies from MBTS.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Celebrating Children is a unique synthesis of secular and Christian insights in areas of holistic child development. This program (CCS) comprises 12 credit hours in class interaction, personal study, and a ministry and mission focused practicum.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the program, the student should be able to:
- Describe the processes of holistic child development within the child's own context according to a variety of theoretical frameworks.
- Describe and apply the biblical perspective of children in the context of their families, communities, churches, and in God's kingdom.
- Understand how developmental influences work positively to enhance the child's resilience or negatively to place the child at risk.
- Analyze the methods of assessment and evaluation and the models of prevention and intervention that are essential for effective work with children.
- Explore the knowledge and practical skills required to work effectively with children.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The entry requirement is an SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) or its equivalent. The student must also be competent in the English language. Mature practitioners without an SPM will be considered on a case by case basis.
