GUIDE TO SEMINAR PARTICIPATION

1. Format of Seminar
A course in the seminar format has three components:
  • The Pre-Seminar Assignment Component. A certain amount of reading and probably a paper is required before the seminar begins. Students may be asked to circulate a paper for discussion during the seminar.
  • The Seminar Attendance Component. A minimum of 3 participants is required to classify the course as in a Seminar format. A seminar meets for 30-40 hours (that is, 5 days of sessions should be expected for 6 to 8 hours a day.
  • The Post-Seminar Assignment Component. Further readings, a major paper and / or even an examination may be required.

Normally a course in the seminar format is valued at 4 credits; hence, students can expect extensive personal work.

2. Registration for Seminar
  • Obtain information on dates and courses conducted through seminar format
  • Register and pay tuition fee for the seminar in which you intend to participate at least 3-4 months in advance
  • Obtain course syllabus and begin preparation for the seminar

3. Obtaining Credit for Seminar Participation
  • Requires completion of pre-seminar requirements. Failure to do so may lead to automatic disqualification for participation.
  • Full attendance of seminar is required. Due to the minimum amount of time allotted to classroom / group encounters and lecture format, students are expected to make sure they participate fully. Please note full attendance includes full attention and no interruptions from "cell-phones."
  • Post seminar assignments must be completed in time. Students may apply for only 2 extensions of 30 days each. After 2 extensions, failure to complete assignments will mean a failing grade.

THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
  1. Must be completed before student is confirmed or accepted into the program.
  2. A 2-Hour entrance examination.
  3. Students will be given a guide to prepare for the examination.
Special attention will be given to the area of the intended study.
