Course Description:

  • Book of Jeremiah:  The course works systematically through the book of Jeremiah so that by the end the student will have a good idea of the central themes and main messages. The student will also become familiar with the prophetic genre and gain confidence in carrying out an exegetical study of a text.
  • Being a Caring Church:  In this course we explore the basic Biblical notion that a local church, from its inception, amongst other important things (such as acknowledging the Lordship of Christ, relying on the empowering of the Holy Spirit, and being under the authority of Holy Scripture) is characterized by Christ-like caring of all its members spiritually and materially.  While such caring should mainly be spontaneous, it should be also intentional and systematic so that no one is left uncared for and no one is cared for too much.  Participants will also share from their own experiences, observations and ideals and prepare an outline on how they would improve caring at their current local church.
  • The Pastoral Ministry in the Light of Biblical Theology:  Current models for Pastoral Ministry are often taken from church traditions, management and church growth theories, with less attention to biblical foundations.  This course surveys the salvation history of God's purposes for the nations and Israel's role as a missional community.  It explores different perspectives on the relevance of the Old Testament Theology for Christian Ministry and Mission, digging into key biblical texts, and developing relevant models for pastoral spirituality and church life in contemporary Asian society.  Practical implications for pastoral work and witness will be explored throughout the course, such as: Pastoral Identity, Models of Chruch Leadership, Wisdom and Marketplace Witness, Humble Rulers and Power-Conflicts, the Church and Socio-Political Contexts, the church and the Kingdom of God.
  • Personal Evangelism & Discipleship. A core course in the basic theological programs aimed at helping students better understand the practice of personal evangelism and the making of disciples.
